According to the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS), the species Cannabis sativa L. belongs to the genus Cannabis, which belongs to the Cannabaceae family. The Cannabaceae family, along with three other families, make up the (informal) suborder Urticalean rosids, of the order Rosales.
