Belgian tolerance policy for soft drugs is over

The new government of Belgium, under Prime Minister Michel, has made an end to the tolerance policy for soft drugs. From now on the possession and use of all drugs is forbidden, and punishable, for both under-age and adult people – including cannabis. Since 2003 Belgium, just as the Netherlands, has had a tolerance policy for soft drugs.

The possession by adults of a maximum of 3 grams for personal use was given the lowest priority for prosecution. However, following a big win for Bart de Wever of the Nationalistic party N-VA, this has come to an end.

De Wever is Mayor of Antwerp, where he has previously instigated a zero-tolerance policy for drugs. Although his party was the major victor of the parliamentary elections in Belgium, de Wever has no ambitions to become Prime Minister. He has, however, made his mark on the new government in terms of their drug policy; from now on, Antwerp’s zero-tolerance policy will apply to all of Belgium. This decision reverses progress, sending the entire country back in time.

The Belgian Federal Government Agreement makes no statement on the use of medicinal cannabis, nor initiatives such as the Mambo Social Club and Trek Uw Plant (lit. Pull Your Plant). Both are cannabis social clubs that, among other activities, cultivate medicinal cannabis for patients. Sensi Seeds had had contact with the Mambo Social Club today, and they stated that this new policy does not effect a Ministerial directive made in 2005 allowing these clubs to operate.

Great job, you've officially set your country back 30 years. Hope your bribes were worth it, childish politician.
