Survey details cannabis legalisation
If one looks at the details of the poll, it quickly becomes clear that especially men and people younger than 30 approve of an overall cannabis legalisation: 49% of men are pro cannabis, and 29% of women. More than half of the interviewees that are 30 years and younger are for the legalisation of cannabis, 57% to be precise. The poll results also show that the older people are, the less they agree with cannabis deregulation: 39% of people between 30 – 44 years, 36% of people between 45 – 59 years, and only 28% of people that are 60 years and older. Interestingly enough, it is mainly women that are for cannabis legalisation for medical reasons, the total percentage is 54% vs. 35% of men. The survey results also seem to confirm the overall standpoints of Berlin’s governing parties in regards to cannabis. Only 29% of party members of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and 23% of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) would agree to cannabis legalisation. On the other hand, interviewees that are supporters of The Greens (Die Grünen) and The Left (Die Linke) seem to be standing behind their party on the subject of cannabis regulation: respectively 53% and 57% of the aforementioned are pro cannabis legalisation. Also worth mentioning, is the fact that a total of 53% of SPD members and 55% of CDU members approve of cannabis legislation for medical purposes. In this regard, 37% of The Greens and 30% of The Left would give a green light.
