For the first time ever, the International Cannabis Business Conference was held a couple weeks ago in Berlin. Politicians, legal advisers, scientists, and entrepreneurs came together in order to discuss the future of the cannabis industry.
So far, Uruguay is the only country in world to legalise cannabis on a national level. Everywhere else that you can buy cannabis or hashish without much fuss, there is a catch. Sales are either simply tolerated, as in the Netherlands and Spain, or they are only permitted for medical reasons, as in some US states, Jamaica or Germany. Cannabicyclol (CBL) is a little-studied phytocannabinoid that occurs naturally in the cannabis plant. Very little is known about CBL or its potential in medicine. Most existing research into CBL has focused on the structure and biosynthesis of the molecule itself, and the few studies that have looked into its use in specific medical applications have not yielded promising results.
In February 2017, Ciudadanos and the OECM presented a Non-Legislative Motion in Congress in order to regulate medical cannabis in Spain. Its objective is to address the needs and demands of Spanish patients, as well as to open a parliamentary debate about therapeutic cannabis – a treatment backed by scientific evidence.
