Tangerine Splash Automatic is a 60/40 indica/sativa hybrid bred with the team at Fat Beans as a part of the Sensi Seeds Breeding Grounds project. Breeders created this strain by taking a cross of Papaya and Copenhagen Kush, giving this strain a lineage including Hindu Kush, Northern Lights, Ice #2, and more. This was then mixed with a ruderalis indica to pass along the autoflowering trait.
This selective breeding has resulted in surprisingly tall plants capable of delivering heavy yields of large, dense buds that deliver a powerful sativa high. Since this is an autoflowering strain, growers don’t need to worry about changing light schedules as these plants will flower on their own after a few weeks. However, these plants’ size can make them tricky for indoor growers short on space, though this strain does respond well to low-stress training.
Tangerine Splash Automatic cannabis seeds typically grow into surprisingly large plants for an indica-dominant autoflowering strain. Growers should expect a towering main stalk with a large, heavy cola at the top and several large buds growing along the stem’s elongated internodal spacing. The lateral branches are robust, but incredibly short, barely reaching halfway up the stem. While short, these branches tend to develop dense secondary colas.
Indoors, Tangerine Splash Automatic plants commonly reach maturity at a height of roughly 100-160 cm while producing heavy yields of up to 250-325 grams per square metre. If grown outdoors, these plants are unlikely to grow much taller, likely finishing at a height of 110-180 cm with a yield of 150-250 grams per plant. Indoors or out, these plants have a flowering cycle of 60 to 65 days.
The flowers from Tangerine Splash Automatic plants are roughly golfball-sized, extremely dense, and covered in resinous peach-coloured trichomes and bright neon-orange pistils. Thanks to the short branches and long internodal spacing, growers should expect a relatively small number of fairly heavy flowers. These buds are rather leafy, which can slow trimming to a crawl, though the smaller number of flowers makes the entire process fairly quick.
As an autoflowering strain, growers have little say over how large the plants get, and many advanced training techniques aren’t a good fit here. These plants are too tall for a sea of green (SOG), and their lateral branches are simply too short for a screen of green (SCROG) or lollipopping. Additionally, since these plants will flower automatically, more aggressive techniques like mainlining or topping aren’t a viable option. However, these plants’ tall main stems and short lateral branches do respond very well to tying down and low-stress training.
As Tangerine Splash Automatic plants begin to flower, growers can expect a blast of freshly-peeled tangerine, sweet papaya nectar, sticky kush depth, and bright citrus mist with subtle a herbal spiciness. The smell is certainly distinct, but requires no special care to manage, making this a decent pick for privacy-minded growers.
Once the buds have been dried and cured, the aroma takes on creamy notes with distinct scents of tropical fruit, zesty, lemon-lime, citrus notes, a Kush-like earthy resin, and a hint of smooth papaya sweetness. The flavour highlights many of these scents with a sweet orange soda burst leading the way. This citrussy burst is followed by hints of creamy papaya milkshake, lush kush undertones, and a soft, lingering citrus candy finish.
The effects of Tangerine Splash Automatic are largely sativa with a rapid onset of a bubbly, uplifting, euphoric, and social sunshine-like energy. After a bit of time, this smoothly transitions into a more relaxing, body stone that won’t slow you down. This strain is a great pick for creative projects, social settings, or a nice day in the park.
