On Sunday the 14th of June 2015 the 7th Cannabis Liberation Day took place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. During this festival the founder of Sensi Seeds, Ben Dronkers, was honoured with the Koos Zwart Award; an annual recognition for activists who have made an outstanding contribution to the normalization and legalization of cannabis.
Unfortunately Ben Dronkers was not able to visit this year’s festival, but sent his warmest appreciation for this very special award from his home in Malaysia.
“Koos Zwart dedicated his life to cannabis normalization and he played a major role during the emergence of the Dutch tolerance policy, back in 1976”, Ben said. “I feel only deep respect for all he has done, and I feel truly honoured with this award that is carrying his name.”
In May 2014, Koos Zwart passed away, at the age of 66. One month later his legacy was celebrated with great dignity, during last year’s Cannabis Liberation Day. The Platform Cannabisondernemingen Nederland (PCN = Dutch Platform Cannabis Companies) also took the initiative to create an award, and named it after the famous and significant Dutch cannabis activist.
The Sensi Seeds team is extremely pleased with this award, that comes as we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the company. We are proudly looking back at 30 years full of love for the cannabis plant and full of dedication to bring this plant back to its rightful place in society. This love and this dedication, which are still flowing through the company, have started with one man: Ben Dronkers. The timing is perfect!
Ben Dronkers and the whole team would like to thank the PCN and the organization of Cannabis Liberation Day for making this possible.
