Sour Jam Automatic is a 60/40 indica/sativa hybrid bred together with our friends at DNA Genetics for inclusion in the Sensi Seeds Breeding Grounds project. This strain is a cross of Ruderalis Indica (one of the very first autoflowering strains, developed in the 1980s by Nevil Schoenmakers) and Sour Purple, a sour, gassy, and fruity phenotype of a secret strain.
These relatively short, but incredibly bushy plants, can generate heavy yields of uplifting and energising buds without ever outgrowing their space. As an autoflowering strain, these plants are incredibly easy to grow and will simply flower on their own after a few weeks, regardless of their light schedule. While these robust plants can be grown virtually anywhere, they perform best in temperate to warm, semi-dry environments and can tolerate moderate humidity fairly well as long as the space has good air circulation.
Sour Jam Automatic cannabis seeds can be expected to develop into fairly short plants with somewhat dense vegetation and long, slender lateral branches growing along moderate internodal spacing. These plants feature a short and sturdy central stem that rises only slightly above the lower canopy, which is largely even and easy to maintain with minimal training. Despite their small stature, these plants can support heavy, resinous buds.
Indoor growers can expect Sour Jam Automatic plants to be ready for harvest at a height of roughly 25-80 cm, while they produce heavy yields of 250-325 grams per square metre. Outdoors, don’t expect these plants to grow much taller, topping out at 35-100 cm, though still capable of producing 150-250 grams per plant over their 60- 65-day flowering period.
The flowers from Sour Jam Automatic plants are tight and conical, with large calyxes in a rich, dark green and deep purple accents, pale orange pistils and a thick layer of sticky trichomes. The main cola is likely to run the upper quarter of the plant, while the hearty lateral branches each support an impressive secondary cola. These buds are fairly large and not terribly leafy, so trimming shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.
As an autoflowering strain, growers have little control over the final shape or size of Sour Jam Automatic plants, as their fixed flowering schedule doesn’t respond well to many advanced growing techniques. These plants are short enough for a sea of green (SOG), though their bushy lateral branches can take up a fair bit of space, limiting the number of plants in an area. While the lateral branches are strong enough to support lollipopping, they aren’t long enough to weave into a screen of green (SCROG) setup.
While flowering Sour Jam Automatic plants give off a sweet and sour aroma characterised by sour grape notes, ripe berries, and subtle hints of gassy diesel. The smell can become somewhat powerful in the final weeks before harvest, though growers should have little trouble keeping the odour in check, should they be so inclined.
After the flowers have been harvested, dried, and fully cured, opening a jar of Sour Jam Automatic reveals a delicious blend of fruity, slightly tangy notes, alongside herbal, Kush undertones. Sampling these sticky flowers will treat users to a mouthwatering burst of sour grape on the inhale with notes of creamy berries mid-palate, and a smooth, earthy Kush exhale that leaves a faintly gassy aftertaste.
The high that users can expect from Sour Jam Automatic starts off with a burst of uplifting, cerebral energy that’s sure to boost even the sourest mood. After a bit, this rush smoothly transitions into a classically Indica body buzz that can cause serious couch-lock, making this strain ideal for evenings or relaxing, chilled out sessions with friends. Overall, the high is fairly balanced that provides long-lasting mental clarity and a gentle physical calming sensation.
