The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum
The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum offers a true voyage of discovery through the past, present and future of cannabis Sativa L. – also known as hemp and marihuana.
Sensi Seeds’ most well known sister company, the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum is famous throughout the world and welcomes around 100,000 visitors each year. Showcasing unique exhibits and extensive documentation covering the historical and modern uses of the cannabis plant worldwide, the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum is an essential part of any visit to Amsterdam.
The history of cannabis comes alive in the Museum Gallery, an annex to the Museum added in 2008, where Old Master paintings worthy of the Rijksmuseum are displayed. These original works depict Dutch rookhuizen (‘smokehouses’), the 17th Century equivalent of coffeeshops) and scenes of daily life 400 years ago when hemp was an essential part of every household. Antique items used for processing hemp, together with the finished hemp products are also on display, lending an extra dimension to many of the paintings.
In the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum, the whole spectrum of cannabis is explored, from its medicinal, religious and cultural applications to its enormous potential benefit to agriculture, industry and the environment in the future. Using a variety of different media including short films, paintings and photographs, the Museum shows how the plant has evolved alongside humanity, how cannabis was once one of our most valuable renewable resources and why this should still be the case.
One highlight of every visit to the Museum is the Interactive Vaporising Exhibit, where visitors over 18 can see and experience how cannabis is vaporised for medicinal or recreational use.
