As a 60% sativa hybrid, Pure Power Plant isn’t what you’d expect. In our grow report, this strain showed its distinctly indica growth pattern, stayed incredibly short, and flowered in record time. While this didn’t provide a particularly large or potent yield, we were impressed by its speed, versatility, and ease of growth which make this ideal for beginners.
Total growing time: 69 days
Flowering time: 48 days
Final height: 75 cm
Final yield: 76 grams
THC content: 16.5%
To grow our Pure Power Plant Feminized cannabis seeds, we used a 1000 W Philips GreenPower HPS light which we kept on an 18/6 schedule during vegetation. Our plant was grown in an 8-litre plastic pot filled with BAC Lava Mix and topped with a thin layer of Rockwool. The room we grew in was kept at a stable 23°C during the day with nighttime temperatures dropping down to 21°C and a relative humidity of 65% during vegetation.
Germination & seedling
Before we could start growing our plant, we first needed to germinate the seeds. Germinating seeds is possibly the easiest part of the entire growing process and requires no special equipment; you just need paper towels, a plate, and a plastic bag.
Simply fold up a few paper towels and put them on a plate. Next, add a small amount of water; don’t overdo this, you want the paper towels to be damp but not soaked. Now, sprinkle any seeds on top of the towel making sure to leave a few centimetres between seeds. Cover everything with another damp paper towel, place it all in an open plastic bag, and put it somewhere warm for a day or so.
After a little more than a day, our seed had cracked open to reveal the taproot. This germinated seed was then planted into a Rockwool cube (taproot down) and put under a 600 W lamp where it could spend a few days developing roots. At this point, seedlings are incredibly delicate and too much light, heat, or water could cause lasting damage. After three days, we gave our seedling its first feeding with 100 ml of pH-balanced water (pH 6.2; EC 0.8) mixed with a small amount of rooting hormone.
At the end of the first week, our Pure Power Plant Feminized seedling was 4 cm tall and looking healthy. Unsurprisingly, it hadn’t sprouted any true leaves yet, but the cotyledons were a dark healthy shade of green. At this point, it was time to transplant our seedling to its new home an 8-litre plastic pot under our 1000 W light. This also meant that it was time to start properly feeding our plant and we began watering with 200 ml of water (pH 6.0; EC 1.4) mixed with Bio Grow liquid nutrients.
Vegetation
In week two, our Pure Power Plant seedling grew rather slowly only reaching a height of 7 cm. This was largely expected as this strain tends to stay on the shorter side. While vertical growth was minimal, the plant was incredibly productive developing a full set of short and broad true leaves as well as sprouting its second set.
Week three saw some fairly significant growth with our plant gaining 10 cm to reach a new height of 17 cm. This was accompanied by several new sets of leaves with tight internodal spacing and the first formation of lateral branches. With all of this new growth, we doubled the volume of water to 400 ml per day.
Also at this stage, we added small satchels of Neoseiulus californicus and Amblyseius swirskii to the plant’s lower branches. These pouches contain hundreds of tiny bugs that live symbiotically with cannabis plants and cause the plants no harm. Instead, these little critters feed on parasites like spider mites and thrips which can destroy a harvest if left unchecked. These satchels are replaced every four weeks to maintain a fresh supply.
Flowering
In week four, we switched our Pure Power Plant to flowering by flipping our lights to a 12-hours-on-12-hours-off schedule and swapping to Bio Flower liquid nutrients mixed with 800 ml of pH-balanced water (pH 6.0; EC 1.8) daily.
This week saw our plant’s single largest growth spurt as it nearly tripled in size to reach a new height of 44 cm. This vertical growth was accompanied by robust growth of lateral branches as the plant was beginning to develop the classic Christmas tree shape common of many indicas. With all of this new growth, it was time to lower the humidity of the space to 60% to help prevent the formation of mould.
In week five our plant grew to 59 cm and was starting to show the very first signs of flowering as small white hairs appeared at the inner nodes and tops of branches. To help keep up with all of this new growth, we once again increased the water to 1000 ml daily.
Week six saw the last major growth spurt for our plant as it grew 13 cm to a new height of 72 cm. From here on out, all of the plant’s effort would be focused on developing flowers. By now, the small white hairs were slowly developing into clusters of pre-flowers which were covering the entire plant. With full bloom just around the corner, we increased the volume of water to 1500 ml each day.
Over week seven, our plant reached a new height of 74 cm with these 2 cm coming from the ever-growing main cola. The flowering sites were all well-established and the flowers at the ends of branches were all converging into single buds. This plant was developing at a breakneck pace and each day saw significant development with the flowers growing noticeably larger and denser. At this point, we further lowered the humidity to 60%.
As week eight came and went, our plant saw no new vertical growth, but the flowers were exploding. By now, they were covered in glistening trichomes and were incredibly sticky to the touch. Our plant was also beginning to give off a musty, skunky odour highlighting its indica lineage. The smell was noticeable without being overwhelming. Regardless, if you value discretion, it’s worth investing in some odour control.
Week nine was largely more of the same; no new vertical growth by massive development of flowers. The pistils were slowly beginning to turn a deep orange meaning that harvest was gradually approaching. The lateral branches were being pulled down slightly by the increasing weight of the buds, but no additional support was required.
Week ten saw a majority of pistils turn orange and the growth of flowers was slowing considerably. Harvest was just around the corner and there was little to do but wait for nature to run its course.
Finally, in week eleven, we harvested our Pure Power Plant Feminized.
Harvest
Harvesting our Pure Power Plant was incredibly simple. To start with, we cut it down at the base, removed the fan leaves, and hung it upside-down in a climate-controlled space (15.5°C; 50% humidity) until the branches were brittle enough to snap when bent; typically 10-20 days.
Once the plant was dry, we removed the buds to trim away the remaining leaves. This was particularly easy with this strain as it’s not particularly leafy, though the leaves are fairly small and getting all of them can be a bit tricky. Once the buds were trimmed they were placed into glass jars for curing.
For the first 24 hours, these jars were left open to allow most of the remaining moisture to evaporate. After the jars were sealed, they were “burped” several times a day for an hour each time. The frequency was gradually reduced to once per day over the next several weeks. After about 6 weeks of curing, our Pure Power plant was ready for use.
All in all, we were able to harvest a total of 76 grams of dried flowers with a THC content of 16.5%. While these aren’t the highest numbers we’ve ever seen, they’re genuinely impressive for a plant that grew this easily, quickly, and stayed this small.
Terpene profile
Once we opened up our jar of Pure Power Plant Feminized we were greeted by a musky, citrusy aroma hiding notes of vanilla. The taste is exactly in line with the smell, though with a subtle spiciness underneath it all.
After trying some Pure Power Plant, the effects were immediate. Despite its shape and size, this plant is still a sativa-dominant hybrid and that means it gives an uplifting and energizing high. This strain will get the juices flowing and we quickly found ourselves caught up in conversation and struggling to catch a breath between bouts of laughter.
If you’re planning on a social outing, this is an ideal strain. But be careful as its indica nature can come out if you go overboard – too much of this might just put you to sleep.
The outcome
Purple Power Plant might not be the most productive or potent strain out there, but if you want something fast, easy, and just fun to grow, then this is a truly incredible choice. Thanks to its lightning-fast flowering time, this is a strain ideal for experimenting with new growing techniques. Its compact stature makes it a great choice for a sea of green growth while its rapid flowering makes it a prime candidate for slower growing methods like fimming or mainlining.
