Glamour Automatic

Glamour Automatic

Glamour Automatic is a hybrid strain bred from Hindu Kush, Purple Kush, and Afghani #1 that we developed in collaboration with the group at Fat Beans. This grow was a breeze and the end results speak for themselves. A low profile, decent flowering time, and respectable yield all combined in one package.

Flowering stage: 63 days

Total time, seed to harvest: 91 days

Final height: 91 cm

Final yield: 76 grams

THC content: 20.3%

As with all our plants, we grew this Glamour Automatic under a 1000 W Phillips Green Power HPS light (on an 18-6 schedule during vegetation) in an 8-litre pot of BAC Lava Mix. Throughout the grow, we kept the temperature at a stable 24°C during the day and 21°C at night with a relative humidity of 65% during the vegetative stage.

Germination & seedling

To germinate our Glamour Automatic seed, we used the trusty paper towel method. Just place the seeds between two damp paper towels, put it all on a plate and cover it loosely with some plastic. After about a day, our seed had cracked open exposing the taproot. This was then planted, taproot down, into a Rockwool cube and placed under a Phillips 600 W Green Power HPS bulb.

Over the first week, our seedling received its first watering (on day 3) of 100 ml of water with a pH of 6.5 and an EC of 0.8. By the end of the week, our plant was standing about 5 cm tall and had sprouted its second set of cotyledons with the first true leaves just beginning to show themselves.

Vegetation

At the start of week two, we moved our plant into its new home; an 8-litre pot under the 1000 W light. This week saw the formation of the plant’s first true leaves. Over the week, the plant grew to a height of 17 cm and grew two full sets of leaves. These fairly broad leaves had notably rounded serrations along the sides and were developing a healthy deep green colour. To keep up with this rapid growth, we began watering the plant with 500 ml of water mixed with Bio Grow liquid fertiliser.

As week three progressed, our Glamour Automatic plant grew rapidly, developing 3 more sets of leaves and climbing to a new height of 24 cm. The large leaves were beginning to get a little droopy under their weight, but they maintained a rich colour signalling good health. This week also saw the development of the plant’s very first pistils at a few of the inner nodes. We again upped the water to 750 ml (with a new EC of 1.4) per day.

During this week, we also hung satchels of Neoseiulus californicus and Amblyseius swirskii from the plant’s lower branches. These contain small predatory mites that live on cannabis plants but do not harm the plant. Instead, they feed on things like thrips and spider mites that can devastate your garden if left unchecked. These satchels are replaced every four weeks to ensure a constant supply.

Flowering

Week four saw us flip our lights to a 12/12 schedule. While this isn’t necessary for autoflowering plants, we were growing photoperiod plants in the same space. During this week, we again increased the volume of water and were now giving our Glamour Automatic plant 1000 ml of water each day. This water was mixed with Bio Flower liquid nutrients and had an EC of 1.7.

Over this week, the plant grew only 4 cm and developed a few new sets of leaves. It was also beginning to show signs of proper flowering with buds developing at the tops of the main stalk and the lateral branches. The once-broad leaves were growing longer and thinner but were still looking a bit droopy, though this may have been caused by some slight overwatering.

The fifth week of growth saw the plant rise to a new height of 35 cm as flowering went into full effect. By now, buds were developing all across the plant and the leaves had regained a fair bit of turgidity. The spacing between the inner nodes was fairly large, meaning that each site had adequate airflow and plenty of light. At this stage, we again increased the volume of water to 1200 ml and increased the EC to 1.8.

During week six, our plant grew to 41 cm and the leaves had begun to bounce back to take on a sturdy, healthy look. The main cola was developing nicely and the flowers along lateral branches were growing larger and denser each day. At this stage, we increased our watering to 1500 ml daily.

By the end of week seven, the plant shot up another several centimetres to a new height of 48 cm. Drawing this week, we added new satchels of Neoseiulus californicus and Amblyseius swirskii to the plant. By this time, the plant was in full bloom and there was little left to do except wait.

As we entered week eight, our Glamour Automatic was still growing rapidly and now stood 59 cm tall. The cola was growing so heavy that the main stalk was beginning to bend a bit under its weight. We were also beginning to see the first few orange pistils, signalling that harvest was slowly approaching.

Week nine saw another major growth spurt with the plant gaining another 9 cm to reach a total height of 69 cm. The flowers were incredibly sticky with resin at this point and the plant was giving off a noticeable floral scent with hints of citrus and fresh fruit.

The tenth week saw yet another major burst of growth with our Glamour Automatic now standing 78 cm tall. The main cola was growing denser each day and the lateral branches were beginning to bend under the weight of their flowers. More and more pistils were turning orange and a few fan leaves were beginning to turn yellow.

By the end of week eleven our plant went through one last round of growth and was now 85 cm tall. The buds were incredibly dense and heavy and the entire plant was now bending slightly under their weight. More and more leaves were turning light green/yellow and the pistils were now mostly orange meaning that harvest was just around the corner.

In the twelfth week, our plant grew to its final height of 90 cm and was at end of its natural lifecycle, so it was time to harvest. Most leaves had now turned yellow and the pistils were now almost entirely orange.

Harvest

To harvest our Glamour Automatic plant, we cut it down at the base, removed the fan leaves, and hung it upside-down in a room with a relative humidity of around 50% and a temperature of 15.5°C. Once hung, we left it to slowly dry until the smaller branches snapped when bent.

Once the plant was dry enough, we removed the buds and trimmed any remaining leaves. These flowers were then placed into glass jars for curing. Initially, these jars were left open for 24 hours to allow the bulk of the remaining moisture to evaporate. After this, the jars were sealed and “burped” several times a day. The interval of these burps was gradually reduced to once daily over several weeks.

Terpene profile

Glamour Automatic is something of a creeper strain. While the uplifting euphoric effects were noticeable immediately, they continued to increase as time went on. As time passed, the effects gradually built into a powerful cerebral high that slowly gave way to a long-lasting body relaxation.

The smell of this strain is complex with hints of fresh tropical fruits, creamy Kush, and underlying notes of spicy hashish and sandalwood. The flavour is equally impressive with an emphasis on the creamy, earthy notes while the fruiter notes were a bit more subtle.

The outcome

Once everything was said and done, we harvested a total of 76 grams of dry flowers with a THC content of 20.3%. The total time from planting to harvest was 91 days with 63 of those spent in flowering, though we likely could’ve harvested a week earlier.

Overall Glamour Automatic was a breeze to grow and yielded a respectable harvest for a relatively short plant. This strain is a great choice for indoor growers with limited headroom who still want to enjoy a powerful and productive strain.
